The fifth and final Regional Consultation workshop was held at Lucknow on
October 22, 2010. Mr. Shashi Kant Sharma, Secretary IT, Government India, Chief
Secretary and Principal Secretary IT, Government of Uttar Pradesh participated in
the deliberations and addressed the delegates.
The workshop was attended by Senior Officials from Finance, Treasury, Home,
Police, Agriculture, Food & Civil Supplies, Land Reforms, Panchyati Raj, Social
Welfare, Disabled Welfare, Women Welfare, Backward Class Welfare, Industries,
Economic & Stats, Secondary Education and Medical Health Departments of Uttar
Pradesh and officers from IT Department and NIC of Bihar and Chattisgarh. A
cross section of Industry, including Service Centre Agencies participated in the
Secretary IT, Government of India, articulated his Department′s vision for NeGP.
An excerpt from his Keynote Address set the context for the workshop:
“While e-Governance is imperative for good governance, its realization is fraught with several problems and challenges. This arises from the fact that e-Governance is not an off-the-shelf product that can be bought for money and commissioned in a short period. e-Governance has to deal with several complex issues relating to the transformation of processes, brining about change in the mindsets of people, evolving and adopting the right technologies that are secure, reliable and scalable, and above all, harness the right amount of resources from the public and private sectors. NeGP seeks to address these challenges in a holistic manner.”
“We have a come a long way but we have yet longer journey ahead of us and workshop likes these go a long way in creating platforms for discovery of such initiatives as well as knowledge and information sharing.”
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh presented their eGovernance Status and Future Roadmap, and also brought up their Issues and Challenges.
