'Gram path' for info on rural projects

The Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj on Tuesday launched ‘gram path’, an online monitoring system to facilitate easy access to information on its projects. RDPR Minister Jagadish Shettar, after launching the system here, said that the department had taken up development and upgrading of 20 km of roads in each Rural Assembly constituency under ‘Namma Grama Namma Raste (NGNR) scheme.

The tools developed by National Rural Road Development Agency (NRRDA) are being used at present to monitor the progress of the work taken up under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana on its website. “As the NGNR scheme is funded wholly by the State government, a separate system is needed to monitor progress of the projects and to maintain transparency in implementing them,” he said.

Gram path will provide public the facility to lodge complaints on the quality of work; it will make available important technical and general circulars, orders and technical drawings issued by the department. The online facility will also provide up-to-date information on the work taken up by the Karnataka Rural Road Development Agency such as habitations connected, length of road, cost of road with component details, name of the contractor, physical and financial progress of the work and quality monitoring. The department has also initiated development of the web-based dynamic software to gather necessary information on all rural infrastructure projects of the State.

The government-owned Keonics has been asked to develop the software as well as collect and upload all asset details pertaining to Doddaballapur taluk on a pilot basis.

The software, Geo Special Rural Infrastructure System (GRIS), has an in-built capacity to consolidate the available data and generate customised reports, providing information on present status of all rural infrastructure assets.
